-History of Hub City Moms-

Hub City Moms was born of a desire to be open and welcoming to more mothers than ever before.  Previously, we were a group of moms under the network of MOPS International, a wonderful organization.  But they proved more limiting than we wanted to be.

So in 2017, we amicably broke ties with them to become our very own, non-profit organization, Hub City Moms.  Under our new board, we are now able to open to even more mothers.

Before, once a mother's youngest child reached school age, the mother graduated from the group and was no longer eligible.  But with Hub City Moms, there is no age limit - for moms or their children.  As a mother, a woman may remain involved with our group as long as she chooses.

We are also able to have greatly reduced dues as a unique organization.  MOPS has special dues and fees that all members are required to meet.  Our foremothers understood this was too much burden for some to bear.  And so, fees were drastically dropped at the incorporation of Hub City Moms.

Hub City Moms has retained much of the structure and ideas of MOPS, but is free to create it's own personality and more easily tend to the needs of the mothers here in the Hub City.  We desired to be more accessible, so a hub of talented, driven and passionate moms changed the rules to allow us to make our own rules.  What's the fun of being a mom if you can't make your own rules, right?

Hub City Moms has been a thriving group of connected moms in Aberdeen and the surrounding area.  We look forward to more joining our circle.

Meet the 2023/2024 Steering Committee!

Each one of these ladies has found Hub City Moms in her time of need! She has felt loved and supported and now has a passion to provide that for others!

Emily M

Leader

Hello! We moved here from Wisconsin in 2015 for Tim to work at NSU - no he doesn't teach there, he's an advisor. I have a degree in education, but hated being in the classroom. So now I homeschool our three kids, which definitely has it's ups and downs. I love soup and summer, which don't go together, but gives me something to enjoy all year. We like to bike around town and you may have even seen us out - feel free to wave or shout out if you do.  I also love books and reading and usually have a few I'm working though. We're training our kids up in board and card games so we always have a cache of people to play with. I'm excited for this year in Hub City Moms and the things we'll do and ladies we'll connect with. I hope to see you this year!

Becky

Crafts

Hello, My name is Becky Stanek and I am a stay-at-home mom to a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old boy, at least during the school year.  During the summer I work at Richmond and Mina Lake Recreation Areas doing programs and activities in the campgrounds.  My husband is a teacher at Holgate Middle school.  My family moved to Aberdeen two years ago and we love how family oriented the community is.  I enjoy baking, sewing, and reading in my free time, however little that may be!

Chelsea

Brunch Coordinator

Chelsea moved to Aberdeen in 2021 and joined Hub City Moms right away! She has been married to her husband Joe for nine years and has two kids, Rhett and Adah. She has a small bakery where she makes custom decorated sugar cookies, and enjoys spending time inventing new recipes. In her free time Chelsea can found reading a book or playing board games.

Lisa M

Outreach Coordinator/Finance

Hi, my name is Lisa McDowell, and I am a proud wife of my husband Peter who owns Inman Irrigation in our community for the past 14 yrs and has worked in his family business for over 25 yrs. Because of his hard work it has allowed me to take a break from the medical field and stay at home with our kids.  It is my true hearts desire to raise my daughters to be true warriors of God and to be Jesus’s light in this dark world. And now I also get to put more time into HCM and fellowship with other women who share my faith. God is good! In my free time I like to read, play volleyball, bake, design cards and spend time with my family.

Lisa K

Outreach Coordinator/Childcare Coordinator

Lisa and her husband David have been married 16 years and moved to Aberdeen in 2014 from Las Vegas. After 12 years of waiting, God answered and they had their first child. 20 months later, their second miracle made her appearance into the world as the best christmas present ever! They are expecting their third miracle baby, and tie breaker in March 2024. Lisa works part time at Northern and gets to stay home and be with her family, the best of both worlds! In her free time, she likes hockey, crafting, baking, listening to music, hugs, more hockey, and reading.. a lot.

Emily E

Ministry Coordinator

My name is Emily Engelhart! I am a proud wife to my ag producer (farmer) husband, Zach and momma to our three kiddos, Armand, Emelyn and Evie. I grew up in California, and met Zach when I was 17 years old while visiting family in Aberdeen.

We got married one year later on June 22nd of 2012 (exactly 1 year to the day he asked me out which was never planned!! I do not believe in coincidences at all!) and the rest is history! Some quick little things you may or may not know about me is that I have been playing the violin for 20 years now, I have a blog (morethanministries.org) and I want to publish a devotional someday (which I am writing now!). I love composing/singing/writing music on the side when I get the time and I am also a proud homeschool mom! I was homeschooled through all grades and my husband was as well and we wanted to carry that on with our own children.

I started the ministry position of devotional/prayer for HCM in 2022 and I feel so blessed that I can use my writing to bless and strengthen other mothers such as myself.

Erynn

Social Media Coordinator

My husband, David, and I have three little girls that we are loving raising in this community. I work full time as an educational assistant at the girl's school and am so grateful for the opportunity God has provided to be around the kids during the school day. I have a wide array of strange job experiences, ranging from research intern, to freelance writer, and even puppeteer. My belief is that God ensures no experience is wasted. That has been proven over and over again as my eclectic knowledge has been put to use time and again. It is my pleasure to serve the ladies of Hub City Moms by helping out with social media!
